This is the personal website of Miguel Maloney Thompson (maloneyja.com). I keep it deliberately light on data: no advertising, no third-party tracking, and no analytics cookies. This page explains what little is collected and why. This site and policy are governed by the laws of the Republic of Panama.
Analytics (cookieless): for each page view the site records the page path, an approximate country (derived from your network by Cloudflare), a coarse device and browser type, and the referring website, if any. If you arrive on a link that carries a query string (the part of a web address after the question mark, such as a newsletter or campaign tag), that is recorded too; but values that look personal, like an email address or a token, are automatically removed before anything is stored. No IP address is stored, no cookie is set, and there is no cross-site tracking. Automated and bot traffic is detected and filtered out so the figures reflect real readers only.
Site search: the words you search for are counted, not logged. One row per phrase with a running count, never a record of who searched. No IP address, no cookie, no session, and no time more precise than the day it happened, so a search cannot be tied back to a visit. Anything shaped like a contact detail, such as an email address, a phone number, a web address or a long code, is discarded the moment it arrives and is never stored at all. Search counts are deleted on the same schedule as the rest of the analytics above.
Contact form: if you write to me, the message stores your name, email address, the message itself, the language you used, and (for security and anti-abuse) your IP address and the time you sent it.
Analytics is used only to understand which writing and work people actually read, and to keep the site healthy and secure. Contact messages are used only to reply to you and to keep a record of our correspondence.
Your information is never sold, rented, or shared for advertising, and it is never used to build a profile of you across other sites.
The public site sets no tracking or advertising cookies, which is why you see no cookie-consent banner; none is required. A small preference cookie remembers your English/Spanish language choice. The admin area (for the site owner only) signs in with a token kept in the browser, not a cookie.
Cloudflare sits in front of the site as a security and delivery network. As part of routing your connection it processes technical metadata, including your IP address, and provides the approximate country used above; on the contact form it may show a Turnstile anti-spam check. An email provider is used to deliver the notification when you send a contact message. There are no advertising or analytics third parties.
Analytics records are minimal, contain no IP address or cookie, and are automatically deleted after a set period. Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to correspond with you and for my own records, and are deleted on request.
You can ask to see, correct, or delete any personal information you have sent me. I will respond within a reasonable time.
